Where Implant Surgery Actually Begins

Most dentists don't lack information about implants — they lack a controlled place to practice the surgery. Weekend lectures explain the concepts; they rarely put a scalpel, a suture, or a handpiece in your hands. This Level 1 dental implant cadaver course was built to close that gap.

Over two focused days in Phoenix, you'll move through a deliberate progression: didactic education, hands-on model exercises, and cadaver-based surgical training — so each concept is applied, not just discussed.

What the course covers

The didactic sessions address the foundations that make implant surgery predictable: patient assessment, management of medically compromised patients, pain management, and the anatomy and biology that govern surgical decisions. You'll study extraction techniques that preserve bone, flap design, bone augmentation, suturing technique, single and multiple implant placement, management of implant complications, and the concepts behind lateral and crestal sinus augmentation.

Then you apply it. You'll practice suturing and implant drilling on advanced surgical models, and move to cadaver specimens to perform extractions, graft extraction sites, and place implants in human anatomy — the closest simulation to clinical reality available in dental education.

Why the small-group format matters

This is intentionally intimate, high-touch clinical education — not a crowded conference. Enrollment is capped at eight dentists per course, so your instructors are at your station repeatedly, watching your flap design, adjusting your suture technique, and answering the questions that only come up when your own hands are doing the work.

What you leave with

You won't leave a two-day course as a finished implant surgeon — no honest program promises that. You will leave with a structured surgical foundation, repetitions on models and cadaver specimens, sharper case-selection judgment, and a clear picture of your next step in implant training. Attendees also receive consent forms and patient education materials to take back to their practices, and breakfast and lunch are provided both days.

If you've been waiting for a course where you actually operate, this is where the progression starts. Seats are limited by design — reserve yours below.

Why Dentists Choose This Course

  • Practice flap design, suturing, extraction technique, and implant drilling on models and cadaver specimens in a controlled setting — before ever applying these skills chairside.
  • Work through extraction-site grafting and implant placement on human anatomy, the most realistic simulation available short of a live patient.
  • Get repeated, individualized instructor feedback in a course capped at eight dentists — not a demonstration watched from row twelve.
  • Cover the decision-making that prevents complications: patient assessment, medically compromised patients, anatomy, and case selection.
  • Earn 16 CEUs in two days, with breakfast and lunch provided and take-home consent forms and patient education materials included.
  • Start a structured training progression: Level 1 builds the foundation the All-on-4® surgical and restorative course and live-patient implant surgery program assume.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, attendees should be able to:

  1. Assess implant candidates, including medical history review and considerations for medically compromised patients.
  2. Identify the anatomical structures and biological principles relevant to implant surgery.
  3. Select extraction techniques that preserve alveolar bone.
  4. Differentiate extraction-site defects and their implications for grafting decisions.
  5. Plan flap designs appropriate to the surgical site.
  6. Demonstrate suturing techniques on surgical models and cadaver specimens.
  7. Practice implant osteotomy preparation and drilling protocols on advanced surgical models.
  8. Practice extraction, site grafting, and implant placement on cadaver specimens.
  9. Discuss the indications and technique concepts for lateral and crestal sinus augmentation.
  10. Identify common implant complications and discuss management strategies.
  11. Apply pain-management principles for implant surgical patients.
  12. Evaluate which implant cases are appropriate to treat early in the implant learning curve — and which to refer.

Who Should Attend

This is a foundational program written for licensed dentists at the start of their implant surgery training — or early enough in it that a structured reset is valuable. General dentists who want to add implant placement to their practices will benefit most, and the course also serves prosthodontists, periodontists, and implant dentists who want concentrated cadaver repetitions on extraction, grafting, flap, and suturing technique.

No prior implant surgical experience is required. Because all surgical exercises are performed on models and cadaver specimens — never on live patients — no Arizona licensure is required to attend; an active U.S. dental license is expected. Dentists planning to continue into live-patient training will find Level 1 is the intended first step in that progression.

The Course Experience

Didactic and Lecture Education

Evidence-informed lectures on patient assessment, medically compromised patients, pain management, surgical anatomy and biology, extraction technique, bone augmentation, implant placement, complications, and lateral and crestal sinus augmentation concepts.

Hands-On Model Training

Suturing technique and implant drilling protocols practiced on advanced surgical models with instructor coaching.

Cadaver Surgical Training

Extraction, extraction-site grafting, and implant placement performed on cadaver specimens under direct instructor guidance.

Case Review and Instructor Mentorship

Small-group discussion of case selection and treatment decisions throughout both days, with individualized feedback at each hands-on station.

Who Teaches It

Dr. Blake Adams, main instructor of the Level 1 dental implant cadaver course

Led by Dr. Blake Adams

Implantologist · Main Instructor

Dr. Blake Adams, DDS, is the main instructor for the Level 1 program. A 2008 graduate of the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry, Dr. Adams practiced general dentistry for a decade before dedicating his career to implantology, training with Dr. Arun Garg and the Spear Institute and completing a Masters of Implantology through UNLV and the California Implant Institute. Because he came to implant surgery from general practice, his teaching is grounded in the questions general dentists actually face when adding implants to their practices.

Dr. Barry Hillam serves as an additional instructor, providing further chairside guidance during the model and cadaver sessions — part of what keeps individual attention high throughout the hands-on work.

Level 1 Course FAQs

Is this dental implant cadaver course right for a dentist with no implant experience?

Yes. Level 1 is a foundational program. Lectures assume no prior implant surgical training, and all hands-on work on models and cadaver specimens is guided step-by-step by the instructors.

Will I treat live patients in this course?

No. All surgical exercises are performed on models and cadaver specimens. Because no live patients are treated, no Arizona temporary license is needed. Dentists who want supervised live-patient surgery should see our 3-Day live-patient implant course.

How many CE credits does the course provide?

The two-day program provides 16 CEUs. Implant Education Company is an approved AGD PACE provider (Provider Code 316714).

What is included in tuition?

Tuition of $3,950 includes both days of instruction, the model and cadaver sessions, breakfast and lunch each day, and consent forms and patient education materials to use in your practice. Tuition may be paid in full or split into two monthly payments of $1,975, with all payments completed before the course start date.
